Christmas Book Haul 2013

Christmas Book Haul 2013

I thought I would post what book items I got as Christmas gifts from loved ones this year and share it all with you.

–          Sailor Moon Box Set v2 by Naoko Takeuchi

–          Wandering Son v4 by Shimura Takako

–          Hollow Earth by John Barrowman and Carole Barrowman

–          Gift Card (already spent!)

  • Shadowplay by Laura Lam (pre-order)
  • Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan
  • Uglies Bookset (Uglies; Pretties; Specials; Extras) by Scott Westerfeld
  • Adaptation by Malinda Lo

Honourable Mention

–          Much Ado About Nothing (2013) DVD

I do not expect to get my order until mid January since I have pre-ordered Shadowplay and that will be released January 7, but we will see if they decide to break-up my order. They have shipped Glow, Uglies, and Adaptation already and will send Shadowplay when it comes out. It is nice when the companies break up your order like that when only one is a preorder.

Let me know what books you guys got as gifts from loved ones or what you will be spending your book gift cards on. I will see you all in 2014!!

Winter Holidays 2013

Winter Holidays 2013

I hope everyone is having a safe and wonderful winter holidays right now and that you are getting the chance to spend it with friends and/or family. My thoughts go out people in Toronto who are dealing with power outages due to ice pulling down tree branches on to power lines. Stay safe, stay warm, and may you get regular power soon.

I just wanted to make a quick post saying that I will be spending the week celebrating the holidays with loved ones, so you can expect to see me back to my regular routine next week with a final review for 2013!

Best wishes to you all and I will see you next week.

Canvember 2013: Canadian TV Shows (1)

While Mondays I’ll continue with the regular review posts during Canvember, I want to step a bit away from the books to look at other Canadian content, things that people might not realize is Canadian . So I thought I would take some time talking about 4 Canadian TV shows! This post, I want to talk about Space Cases and Queer as Folk. Read the rest of this entry »

Coming Soon to a Blog Near You: Canvember 2013

In honour of Alice Munro winning the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Canadian to do so and the 13th women to receive such an honour, I will be taking part in Canvember!

Canvember is a theme of my own creation where for the month of November, I will be reviewing nothing but books written by Canadian authors!! I want to celebrate the works of Canadian authors, especially those that write fantasy, science fiction, and young adult.

I have a couple of books planned already for the month.

MetalMagic by Derek Donais
Assured Destruction by Michael F. Stewart
Above by Leah Bobet
The Silvered by Tanya Huff
If you have any suggestions for me, put them in the comments below. Feel free too if you want to join in on Canvember 2013! The only requirements are that it has to be fiction and the book has to be written by a Canadian author. Easy as pie.
I’d love it if people wanted to join in my special little insanity project 😀

First bite into the Cookie

Greetings and warm salutations, wandering spirit to my humble little corner of the Internet.

My name is Cookie and here I plan to be talking about the wide and vast genre of science fiction and fantasy (plus the genres that are in between) novels. I plan to post a review every Monday and something extra during the week. Maybe a rant that’s burning away in my mind, a look at what other people are talking about in the community (science fiction, fantasy, blogging, etc), or even me talking part in one of the weekly book blogging memes that are floating around.

You’ll notice though that I don’t use any numeric rating system in my reviews. Having done reviews elsewhere in the past, I found that my numbers never really changed all that much. Instead I’d like to focus on the content in the books themselves rather than trying to fit it on some arbitrary number system. I always find myself more interested in what the book is about and what the content is about then what number a reviewer gives it.

If you have any suggestions for books or blogs that you want to share and spread the word about, please put it in the comments below!!
